Burnt Earth, 2020.

My previous experience painting en plein air has been immersing myself in the landscape at times of lushness or dryness. Never before have I spent so much time immersing myself in the landscape after bushfires.

The landscape morphs into something eerie but beautiful and still full of form, texture, mood and colour. The bushfires of 2019/2020 were devastating to watch. The impact on people, homes, animals and nature was immense. I felt compelled to paint a series of work in reaction to my emotions & feelings of this event which had such an impact on the nation. I feel privileged to have been able to document the landscape during the last year – how it was affected and how it has started to recover and regenerate.
